SURFER Magazine is back in print - YAWN
Should we be a sheep and express how happy we are to see SURFER magazine back in print, nope! Their was a time (before cell phones) when magazines were are bible to anything in the world. If you wanted to see who won the Billabong JBAY comp you had to wait up to 60 days after the event is over to read about it. You would cherish EVERY word and EVERY photo. So here we are today scrolling on our instagram and look what pops up - a photo of Kelly Slater shot by Ryan Craig at Backdoor Pipeline with SURFER up top. This is the new issue that has been so talked about. At first glance the one thing I noticed and liked were Kelly's cheeks being puffed out. If his cheeks are like this we know this is a somewhat challenging situation for the 11 time surfing champion - full throttle for Kelly on this one!!!
"It's like beating a dead horse."- ESlates // Evan Slater (no relation to Kelly) former editor in chief of SURFING magazine
SURFER - WHAT IS SURFING TODAY? So here we are in the year 2024 and these are editor Jake Howards (cookie cutter writer) surfers of choice. Kelly Slater, Carissa Moore, Caity Simmers, Kai Lenny, Justine Dupont, Captain Martin Daly, Laura Enever, Nic Von Rupp, Ryan Burch, Lynne Boyer and Bryce Young. I may be really out of it, but this is where surfing is "today"? No, disrespect to any of these surfers as they are all amazing I just feel no need to show us what is surfing today that could had been easily 5 years ago. If Surfer wanted to somewhat hit it out of the park you should had gone with the godfather of surf writing Nick Carroll.
Sadly its true print is dead - hug a tree
If Kelly can't sell magazines no surfer can - Go Kelly!!!!
surfer is owned by the Arena Group - lulaf seems to get it
