Derek Ho has sadly passed away at 55 years old. His sponsors over the years have been Gotcha MCD clothing, Reef shoes & sandals, Island Classic surfboards, Victory wetsuits, Eric Arakawa surfboards, Lost, Perfect Lines surf shop, CHP and Astrodeck traction. Derek has a older brother named Michael (regular foot) who was more known for going right at the Pipeline which surfers call Backdoor where Derek being a goofy-foot was notorious for going left. Photo of Derek was taken by Jack English using a Canon EOS-1vhs camera body, 600mm lens and Fuji Velvia 50ASA slide film.

Derek Kaleiki Howas born in Kailua on Oahu to Chico and Joeine Ho, first cousin to Don Ho. Chico was one of the original Waikiki beach boys, so there was no question his offspring would surf. His older brother Michael was among the first wave of professionals in the mid-'70s, finishing in the Top 16 for 10 straight years." - Surfline
