Speaking to our good friend and surf photographer Grant Ellis who this past year was let go as the photo editor of Surfer Magazine. Grant had been the photo editor for over 10 years. "I worked on the last issue" he said with a smile while visiting him in Oceanside at The Rising Company located at 332 S Coast Hwy, Oceanside, CA 92054. Owners are Grant his wife Julie Ellis, Rob and Jamie Riese (from Vissla), Steve and Cindy Blumkin . When Grant isn't working at the family ran business you can find him also working part-time as the new photo ed at The Surfers Journal replacing Shea Parkins who had replaced Jeff Divine who has since retired.

From Peter Taras - Digital Director (who forgot to mention who put his name in the hat at TW)

"It’s with great sadness that I write that today was my last day at SURFER. Between Transworld SURF, SURFER, and SURFING, that was half my life. 21 years between the three. It’s really hard for me to put into words right now the feelings. I’m a weepy mess. I taught. I was taught. I cared so much for all the creatives I worked with over the years. We were family. Thank you Scott Winer for providing that 16-year old film when I needed it Chris Cote, Marc Hostetter, Aaron Checkwood and Joel Patterson, you took a chance hiring me as a 23 year old Photo Editor. Evan Slater you gave me confidence to go full bore with my visual vision. Chato Aganza , you were always the creative guiding light Jimmie Cane you always brought the heat! Todd Prodanovich you taught me patience and professionalism. Lastly, I want to thank my wife Gretchen Taras (Pete's wife) for having to deal with it all through thick and thin. With much love" - Peter
